Is it good to be busy or bad to be busy? Jesus seemed to be busy and yet he was most likely up at the light of day if not before praying and meditating on God’s word.
My problem tends to be that I am so busy with something on every night of the week that when I get home I want to be lazy and I sure as heck would rather be sleeping in the morning. I do always have a better day when I get up early and get to work early but then my nights are so busy that my lack of sleep catches up to me and gets the best of me.
When a free day comes up I don’t do any of the “todo” stuff on my list because I just want to rest. Mainly because I feel like I deserve it and sometimes I probably do.
The thing is I don’t dislike any of the things that I do. So how do I choose? How did Jesus choose? Sometimes in scripture it seems as though he had too many irons in the fire. He rolled from one miracle to the next in several instances. So do I keep on being busy or do I choose the most important things on my list?
Great thoughts, Taylor! I’m hoping that this will generate lots of good input and provocative thoughts.
I think there is nothing wrong with being “busy” provided that we are not addicted to “busyness.” Sometimes people keep themselves busy in order not to have to think or meditate on their lives. That’s not good.
However, when you’re busy doing things that you are called to do, perhaps that’s simply a strategic use of time?
and i think to look at what you’re busy with and not. what was Jesus busy with? people. He loved people. and as busy as an agenda that He had He would stop at a moment’s notice when someone needed something. and remember that He missed one of His best friend’s death for His busyness. but knew that He could use even that for good.
so what are you busy with? can it be set aside for what God puts in your path. or does it take a talking donkey to get you derailed from your current path? these are the things that i constantly ask myself to make sure i’m on track. because i’m not sure i could be any busier, but i know that my available time expands as it needs to.
Can a person justify being too busy? Maybe.
Can a person justify being too busy to spend time with God? No.
Matthew 14:23
And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.
I am usually absolutely NOT BUSY in the evenings, and I do not pray as I should, but I want to.
I like this post alot. One thing I would remember is the amount of time that Jesus spent praying. We don’t know all the ends and outs of what Jesus prayed about when He was alone but we do know that there are several prayers that show us the heart of who Christ is. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus.
Thanks for the great post!!
